Bill Tyler Memorial Trophy - Gayle & Jimmy Beck
Bill Tyler Memorial Trophy is intended to recognize outstanding service to the sport of sailing at Drummoyne Sailing Club (Dinghy Division) and in particular to the support and development of sailing at the club and more broadly in NSW and Australia. It will generally be awarded to a sailor or administrator (or both) that has contributed to the DSC (dinghy division) and their class over an extended period of time.

Gayle and James (Jimmy) Beck are incredibly worthy recipients of the Bill Tyler Memorial Trophy, in recognition of their outstanding and longstanding contribution to junior sailing at Drummoyne Sailing Club and to the development of sailing more broadly across NSW and Australia.
For many years, both Gayle and James have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to support and grow the Sabot class, dedicating countless hours at club, state and national levels to ensure the ongoing success of junior sailing. Through their involvement on committees, event organisation, fundraising and mentoring, they have played a significant role in shaping opportunities for young sailors both at Drummoyne and beyond.
Their contribution was instrumental in the success of the 61st Thurlow Fisher Lawyers Australian National Sabot Championship and Alex Palmer Sabot Week in 2024/2025, hosted by Drummoyne Sailing Club. From organising uniforms and sponsorship, to managing race systems, fixing boats before racing, cooking endless sausages at the BBQ, and supporting families and sailors in every possible way, they continually go above and beyond for the sailing community.
Beyond the Sabot class, Gayle and James have also helped foster the growth of the Cherub and Wasp fleets at Drummoyne, always willing to share advice, lend support, and step in wherever needed. James’ ongoing work as a member of the Drummoyne Sailing Club Board ensures that sailing and the development of future sailors remain at the heart of the club’s direction and decision-making.
