Boats in a box

A week ago the Clubs Junior sailors were being given a tour of SH Scallywag 100 as she was prepared for racing in the Maxi boat championship.

This week our sailors were preparing their own boats, wrapping and packing and then strapping them in a 40ft shipping container ready to be sent North to Airlie Beach where Whitsunday Sailing Club will be hosting the 62nd Australian Sabot Championship and Eddie Gray Sabot Week from the 27th December to 3rd January.

The Championship and Sabot Week will be sailed on the waters of Pioneer Bay in the Whitsundays which in 2032 will be hosting Olympic Sailing events.

Ten Drummoyne boats plus other SNSW boats from Lane Cove, Greenwich and Vaucluse along with the DSC7 and DSC6 support boats were loaded on Sunday morning.

Strategic parking of cars and trailers made sure a pathway was clear for the truck to arrive at 4am to drop off the container and then collect Monday morning. The container will head North firstly by train to Rockhampton and then by truck to Airlie Beach. A big thank you to Mark Oliver for coordinating the shipping logistics and car park chess game.
