Commodore’s Drinks

Friday 13th saw sailors from all classes come together and celebrate success and for some good old-fashioned banter.

Over the Christmas New Year period, 8 of the clubs Sabot travelled to Airlie Beach for the 62nd Australian Sabot Championship best placed Drummoyne boat was Archer Sacre in Atomic in 8th.

The Cherubs were closer to home sailing their Australian Championship on Sydney Harbour out of Double Bay, girl power was on display with more than half the races being won by female Drummoyne skippers, and Moni and Dan winning the Championship

Club ILCA sailors competed in the Monarch of the River series, an interclub competition between Lane Cove 12ft Sailing Club, Hunters Hill Sailing Club, Greenwich Flying Squadron and Greenwich Sailing Club nad for the first time this season Drummoyne. 70 boats took part in the series and Chase Liebenberg was 2nd overall in the ILCA4 division.

The OK fleet made the journey across the country to be reunited with their boats returning from Lake Garda Worlds, the Freemantle Doctor made an appearance and tested the sailors, Mark Phillips in AUS 808 Cosmos Factory was 1st Grandmaster and Pamela Johnston in AUS 748 Pocket Rocket was 1st Female.

The 16ft skiff championship was held at Belmont with two skiffs representing the Club

The TS16 fleet is looking forward to NSW State titles being held at Saratoga Sailing Club over Easter

A number of sailors from the yacht division headed south in the 80th Sydney to Hobart race, Jimmy Beck was on the TP52 Highly Sprung and Ivan Fitz-Gerald: Main/Trim, Andrew Wong: Bow/Mast, Neil Tavener: 2IC/Helm/Trim, Michael Bencsik: Skipper/Pit/Trim, Clare Woods: Pit/Trim made up half the crew of the Sydney 38 Cinquante which finished 3rd in the Sydney 38 division and 5th IRC Division 4.

In the coming weeks Evie Haseldine will be representing the Club as she and skipper Brooke Wilson chase selection in the 49erfx for the LA Olympics at regattas in Europe, Harry Price is also chasing selection the the men’s 49er.
