SKH Scallywag 100 on show
A big thank you to Skipper David Witt, who with Race 2 for the Australian Maxi Championship looming at 14:00 and a lot of pre-race jobs to tick off, still welcomed the junior Sabot and ILCA sailors of Drummoyne Sailing Club onto maxi SHK Scallywag 100 on Sunday morning.
Since its arrival back in Australia to contest the 80th Rolex Sydney to Hobart race the maxi has been berthed on the arm of Birkenhead Marina opposite Drummoyne club so the sailors have been able to witness from a distance the boat arrive, have its rig dropped in and see the Scallywag team preparing the boat.
Sundayβs pre race boat visit allowed the clubs junior sailors to see up close the scale of these yachts and hear first hand from 5 time around the world navigator Will Oxley about the boat and the philosophy of the race team β NEVER GIVE UP. Pit coordinator Matt Stenna highlighted to them the need to be multi skilled, things are built light, they will break and they have to be fixed at sea.
Good luck Scallywag in the rest of the Australian Maxi Boat Championship, the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge and the upcoming Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race and again a big thank you from the Junior sailors at Drummoyne Sailing Club
