Steve Brady - Life Membership Nomination

Steve Brady (Member No. 2862) joined Drummoyne Sailing Club in 2002. Since then, he has made an outstanding contribution to the Club across leadership, governance, and sailing development.

Steve served for three years as a Director, during which time he worked closely with club operations to strengthen financial management. Under his tenure, the Club achieved the strongest financial result seen up to that point.

Following this, Steve served as Commodore for six years. In this role, he delivered a number of lasting initiatives, including establishing tax-deductible donations to support the fundraising campaign for the PJ training boats. During the challenges of the pandemic, Steve was instrumental in guiding the Club through government regulations, ensuring sailing activities could continue safely and compliantly.

Steve also introduced a formal structure for Flag Officers, creating the roles of Vice Commodore, Club Captain, and Rear Commodore. He defined clear responsibilities for these positions, building a pathway for volunteer development and succession planning while also ensuring the workload of leadership was shared more sustainably.

A passionate advocate for the long-term success of sailing at Drummoyne, Steve led the development of the Club's Sailing Strategy, focused on sustainability and future growth. He was also central to the creation of the Support Boat Policy, which ensures the Club's fleet is fit-for- purpose, well-maintained, and funded for timely replacement. He is currently assisting with the development of a similar framework for the Club's start boats.

As Commodore, Steve oversaw the inaugural Drummoyne 110/50 celebrations, which brought the sailing community together through a series of events. This included the launch of the Drummoyne Cup, a Club-wide regatta that has since become an annual tradition. Steve also introduced Commodore's Drinks which are an evening that all members look forward to.

Through his leadership, vision, and dedication, Steve Brady has had a transformative impact on Drummoyne Sailing Club. His contributions have strengthened the Club's governance, enhanced sailing activities, and built a stronger sense of community amongst sailing members.

Steve is generous with his time, always willing to help where he can. Steve is kind, respectful and has been a wonderful mentor. I can think of few more deserving people of a Life Membership than Steve Brady.
