Tim Valtwies Life Membership Nomination
Tim has been a member of DSC for some 26 years, having joined the Club in 1991-94, and then continuously from 2002.
Since joining, he has been a regular crew on 16's through to the 2022/23 sailing season when he retired from competitive sailing. During this time, Tim won many championship and point-score series, and introduced his two children to sailing with the Junior Division.
While Tim's long-term membership and reputation as a reliable and dependable rock as crew is very significant, his contribution to the sailing community and the wider DSC organisation is what sets him apart and deserves the recognition that life membership bestows.
Amongst the many roles which Tim has filled, some of the more significant include:
*Many years as secretary of the DSC 16' skiff division. During this time, Tim was a member of the team who successfully lobbied the Australian 16' Skiff Association to ensure that Drummoyne retained the right to host those titles.
* In 2018-2019, he jointly led the Learn to Race Training for Junior division members who had completed the Learn to Sail Course.
*Board director for 9 years, including 2 as President and 2 as Vice President, and 9 as a member of the Finance Committee.
During his time as President, Tim took the leadership in revisiting the Club's strategic direction including active support of the current Master Plan vision. As a member of the Finance Committee, Tim provided input and expertise in resetting the financial performance and metrics needed to sustain the vibrancy and longevity of DSC. He was also instrumental in renegotiating the leases with the operators of the bistro and restaurant and guided management through the contractual terms and finalisation of the documentation.
We wholly commend Tim as a life member whose contribution aligns favourably with those whom the Club has elevated to life membership before him and he is most worthy of your vote at the upcoming October 2025 AGM.
