Nil Desperandum Trophy - Petros Calokerinos

Background: The Nil Desperandum is a trophy concept brought from Mosman Amateur Sailing Club, it is awarded to a person who has busted a gut and not won anything, Margy and John are happy to see the Nil Desperandum rested in the seasons where there isn't a candidate. It should not be award to the same person more than once. Some care should be given to awarding of these types of awards as some people can resent receiving them.

The winner in 2026 is Petros Calokerinos

Petros Calokerinos is a very deserving recipient of the Nil Desperandum Trophy, recognising his persistence, determination and enthusiasm for sailing throughout the season.

Having come through the Drummoyne Sailing Club Learn to Sail program, Petros has spent many years sailing Sabots and representing the club at interclub events, always arriving with a smile on his face and a willingness to give anything a go, regardless of the conditions. His positive attitude, resilience and commitment to improving as a sailor embody the spirit of this award.

This season marked an exciting milestone for Petros as he transitioned from the Sabot class into sailing an ILCA, embracing the challenge of continuing to learn and develop within the sport. Whether on or off the water, Petros is always a valued part of the sailing community, bringing energy, encouragement and determination to every weekend.
